If i had not had "job, kids, school" to concentrate and focus on, then i don't think i would have been able to recover.

Being a drug addict takes a lot of time. Once people stop, they are often left with a "what do i do now" void in their life. Sitting around focussing only on recovering from the drug abuse and that lifestyle, wouldn't be healthy for anyone, in my opinion.

Personally, i prefer to focus on a more positive future and the things that are, and should always have been the most important things in my life, rather than dwell on mistakes of the past.

TDA - I do hear what you are saying about putting things above our recovery but I also believe that there our lives need to be made up of more than just our recovery.

I think that by Amy Winehouse performing for the Grammy's and being there to accept her awards she was taking steps to improve her future. She was following through with her commitments and she was "getting back on the horse".

Like I said, I do agree with you that our recovery needs to be our top priority in life but it's not our only priority. That's just my opinion.

I did not see the performance, but I was a little disappointed that she has priorities other than and above her recovery. I know many will vehemently disagree, but I see this as a step backwards regardless of the importance or motivation.

As addicts and alcoholics we can always find something more important than our recovery, and the more it is done the easier it is to do. Job, kids, school are just some of the reasons people say they can't concentrate on recovery right now, but in the end all these things suffer to a much greater degree for this very reason- recovery didnt come first.
