Nikki Sixx – Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rockstar

January 10, 2010 — 2 Comments

This morning I was laying in bed listening to Opie And Anthony on the radio and their guest, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, was talking about the release of his book Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star. Although I’m not a huge fan of Motley Crue (not since the sixth grade anyway) he really caught my attention.

In this radio interview Nikki Sixx came across as someone who is very passionate about the subject of addiction recovery. Obviously the release of his book Heroin Diaries gives away the fact that he his very candid about his addiction which as we know in the times we live in that people in the spotlight aren’t always forthcoming about this topic. Can you say “hospitalized for exhaustion”?

The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star

The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star is Nikki Sixx’s account of his heroin addiction amidst the craziness of life as a rock star. This book takes you through his addiction and on into the triumph of his recovery with a no holds barred account of everything in between.

More than just promoting Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx seems to be on a mission to bring the subject of addiction and addiction recovery in the entertainment business into the spotlight. He is trying to bring to light the fact that as an addict is in the midst of their downward spiral the managers, record producers, agents and hangers-on don’t want the money to stop.

The addict’s actions are downplayed as…”it’s just a little cocaine”, “it’s just a car accident”, “he just had a few too many drinks”. We have seen this too many times in the recent past with people like Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan (by the way, I am in no way saying for a fact that these people are addicts).

Nikki Sixx On Capitol Hill

As most of us who are in addiction recovery know, September is the National Alcohol And Drug Recovery Month. This month, dedicated to recovery, is in an effort to publicize the subject of addiction and addiction recovery. The focus is on trying to encourage citizens to take action and help expand and improve the availability of effective substance abuse treatment for those in need.

As an influential citizen, that is just what Nikki Sixx did. He was invited to speak at a National Alcohol And Drug Recovery Month luncheon which took place on capitol hill. Nikki Sixx was the first person from the music industry to ever speak at this event in the 18 years that it has been around. That seems crazy to me considering the amount of lives lost in the music industry due to addiction.

  1. That is hard to believe that he was the first person from the music industry to speak at this group, but I am glad that Mr. Sixx has stepped up to the plate. Too often the drugs and alcohol run hand in hand with today’s music, by both the musicians and the fans. Abuse and addiction have historically stolen some of our greatest artist before their time.
